Protestant Theological University  is one of two universities in the city theology of the Netherlands Kampen.

Protestant Theological University mainly cater to the education ministries, and so is one of three institutes accredited by the PKN, but it can also be read together (Calvin) theology but do not want to become a pastor .

The university was founded in 1854 as School of Theology ( "Theologische School") of the Christian Reformed Church in the Netherlands, a church due to a schism in 1834, to provide theological education for its ministers. The name was changed to Theological College ( "Theologische Hogeschool") in 1939 and finally the University of Theology in 1986, following a reform of the university / polytechnic system Netherlands.

In 1892, a large part of the Christian Reformed Church in the Netherlands merged with a group split from the mainstream Dutch Reformed Church to form the Reformed Church in the Netherlands, which established a school new Calvin University in Amsterdam: free University. This university has a faculty of theology, but the College in Kampen remain a separate agency.

1944, a schism in the Reformed Church in the Netherlands has occurred, called liberation ( "Vrijmaking"), which results in the Reform Church in the Netherlands (liberation). This new church is also a need for educational institutes of its own, and therefore, a new university was established from the part of the University of Theology: Kampen Theological University Church Restoration how (liberation).

After the Reformed Church in the Netherlands merged with the Dutch Reform Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 2004 to form the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN), University of Protestant theology has became part of the PKN. It is operated on its behalf by a curatorial committee.
